 legitimacy moved to the forefront this week after Yahoo parted ways with CEO Scott Thompson after just four months on the job when it was revealed that his official biography included a college degree he never received.
The bio listed two degrees – in accounting and computer science – from Stonehill College, a small school near Boston. The revelation that Thompson never received a computer science degree raised questions about why the accomplishment had periodically appeared on his bio in the years he ran PayPal, an online payment service owned by eBay Inc.

Chris Lawson, president of the Texas-based Eli Daniel Group, a full-service staffing and recruiting firm that specializes in job placement, said resume padding is prevalent in today’s job workforce, especially among applicants who don’t have a degree.
